Xbox Netflix Sound/Audio/Volume Not Working/Out of Sync

Being able to use Netflix from your Xbox gives you the ability to have access to a streaming service when your TV may not allow it, or when you simply don’t want to navigate from your console once you’ve finished gaming. If the sound on Netflix isn’t working, what can you do?

When Netflix on Xbox has no sound, it’s often due to incorrect audio settings. To resolve this, navigate to the Xbox settings, select ‘Display & Sound’, then ‘Audio Output’. Here, adjust the audio settings to ensure they align with your TV or sound system’s capabilities.

Playing Xbox in TV

One possible reason for this issue is an outdated Xbox system. It’s like trying to understand a new language using an old dictionary; you’re bound to miss something. Updating the Xbox system can often resolve compatibility issues with apps like Netflix. To update, go to ‘Settings’, select ‘System’, and then choose ‘Updates & Downloads’. If an update is available, install it and restart your Xbox.

No matter what you are watching or what you are playing when using your Xbox, one of the most important functions is that you can hear what is going on. This allows you the proper gaming experience, but when you are using apps such as Netflix, allows you the ability to not only see what you are watching, but hear the content as well. If the sound on Netflix from your Xbox is not working, take a look below to see how you can resolve your specific issue.

Xbox Netflix Sound/Audio/Volume Not Working/Out of Sync

When using Netflix on your Xbox, there should be no change in its operating system when compared to how it would work if you were using your phone, were using the app directly from your TV, or were using the app on a computer or tablet. This means that you should be able to not only see whatever content it is that you have selected, but you should also be able to hear it without interruption. If the sound is not working on your Xbox when using Netflix, what’s the fix?

If your Xbox Netflix sound, audio, or volume is not working or is out of sync, the first thing you need to try is simply turning off your device and then turning it back on. This may sound like a simple fix, but this action often resolves small problems without any serious efforts on users’ ends.

Once you have turned off your Xbox, turned it back on, and allowed it to restart completely, you can then go back into the app section of Netflix and try the app once again to see if the volume is working properly. If the volume is still not working properly, try resetting your console by unplugging the device directly from the power outlet, holding down the power button on the console for 5 minutes, letting it sit for one minute, then plugging it back in.

If there is still a problem with the sound while using Netflix on your Xbox, be sure to check the HDMI cord if you are using this to connect your console to a TV. If the cord is damaged, is not securely inserted, or is of poor quality, it could be the problem behind your sound issues. Check to make sure that there is no damage to the cord, that the HDMI cord is securely inserted into both the TV and your Xbox, and replace the cord if you suspect it is not a quality product.

Xbox Netflix No Sound

Angry man while watching TV

We previously went through the more general fixes for sound and volume issues that users may be experiencing when using Netflix through their Xbox. If you have tried all of the previous troubleshooting methods but are still not able to hear and sound when using Netflix, you will need to dig a bit deeper into more involved troubleshooting methods before finding a fix. Take a look below to find a few different ways to get sound back on Netflix when using an Xbox.

If Netflix on your Xbox has no sound, try playing another movie or show from within the app. Hit play, and if you are able to hear sound coming from another show, it is an issue with the particular title you were previously trying to play. Simply select “Report a Problem” for the affected title.

However, if you go to play another title and you experience the same issue of no sound when playing Netflix on your Xbox, you may need to adjust the audio settings within the app. To do this, select ‘Settings’ > ‘Display & Sound’ > ‘Audio Output’ > ‘HDMI Audio/Optical Audio’ > ‘Stereo Uncompressed’ and then navigate back to the home screen of Netflix. Once you are there, find a title to play and see if this causes the sound to come back to the app.

If this does not work and you are still not able to hear sound when playing Netflix from your Xbox, try enabling 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound. To complete this, to go ‘Settings’ > ‘Display & Sound’ > ‘Audio Output’ > ‘HDMI Audio’ > then change the option to one of either 5.1 uncompressed or 7.1 uncompressed. Once you have selected one of these options, go back once more to the home screen of Netflix and see if the sound comes back to the app.

Xbox Netflix Sound Out of Sync/Lagging

Disappointed man

If the sound is working on Netflix, you may be thinking you are out of the woods as far as sound issues go, but some Xbox users have found that although the sound is working, it is out of sync or lagging. Sound lagging may be an even more frustrating problem than having no sound at all, as it completely throws off the flow of the content you are trying to watch. If the sound of Netflix is out of sync or lagging on your Xbox, read below to find a few different solutions for the fix.

If the sound of Netflix is out of sync or lagging on your Xbox, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the app to your Xbox. To do this, go to ‘Games & Apps’ > ‘Apps’ > ‘Netflix’ > ‘Manage App’ > ‘Uninstall All’ > then select ‘Uninstall All’ once more to confirm you want to delete the app.

Once you have the app uninstalled, you can then go back to reinstall the app. To do this, go to ‘Games & Apps’ > ‘Apps’ > find ‘Netflix’ > then move forward with the prompted steps to allow you to install the app again. Once it has downloaded and installed, input your username and password, open the application, select a title to begin watching, and see if the sound is still out of sync or lagging.
