JBL Live has a lot to offer. Most people are familiar with their headphones, which are top-of-the-line but they also offer some wireless earbuds as well.
If you are having some problems starting your JBL Live earbuds, there may be some solutions that will help. The most common issue that causes this to happen, however, is for the earbuds need to be reset.
Before you perform a reset on your JBL Live earbuds, make sure they are in the charging case and being charged for at least an hour. Ensure that you are using a good charging cable.
You can then open the top of the case, removing the right side earbud and covering the sensor with your finger.
Double tap on the JBL insignia and then press and hold the JBL insignia on the earbud. After holding for a few seconds, you will hear the earbud shut down.
Put the earbud back in the charging case and the LED light should start flashing. This shows that the earbud has been fully reset and it is ready to pair with your mobile device again.
Reasons Why Your JBL Live Earbuds Are Not Turning On
One of the pleasures that many of us appreciate in life is listening to music. In order to do so and not disturb the world around us, we may sometimes grab some JBL earbuds. What can you do when they will not turn on?
A common reason why JBL earbuds will not turn on is due to a power button malfunction. If the power button is broken, it may have to be replaced. Otherwise, you can try resetting the earbuds using the method specific to the device.
One of the primary reasons why we tend to use JBL earbuds is because of the quality. When you listen to audio using earbuds, you are getting it without distraction. In other words, the music is crisp and clear.
At the same time, however, we are able to be enveloped in our own world while listening to music without disturbing those around us. That doesn’t mean, however, that the earbuds are perfectly concealing the noise.
JBL earbuds are of high quality but there may still be some sound leakage to consider. That is especially the case if you have them turned up extremely loud.
Of course, if you are dealing with earbuds that are not turning on, you don’t have any volume to start with. Fortunately, this is an issue that is typically easy to fix. There may just be a different fix, depending on the model you are using.
We talked about some of the different issues associated with earbuds and how to fix them, it’s important to discuss the warranty. JBL earbuds come with a limited warranty and some parts of the earbuds may be covered for a longer amount of time than others.
Resetting the earbuds or doing something without opening the case is not typically going to cause any problems with the warranty. On the other hand, if you open the earbuds and start manipulating the wires or circuitry, you are likely going to negate the warranty altogether.
If you have any doubts as to whether your JBL earbuds still have coverage under a warranty, it’s best to contact customer support or take them to the store where they were purchased.
If you plan on working on your JBL earbuds, you will need the right type of equipment to do it. The earbuds are extremely small and the case is also small, meaning you will need small tools to get the job done right.
After you have opened the earbuds or case with a screwdriver or knife edge, you have to be careful that you don’t break the delicate plastic as you are removing it. If you do so, you will likely render the earbuds completely useless from that point forward.
There may be batteries in the earbuds that can be replaced. Those batteries are small and are typically available directly from JBL or there may be aftermarket batteries that can be purchased at a lower price.
Just be aware that, if you purchase aftermarket batteries, you are running the risk of having a low battery life. You may be saving money, but the frustration is not typically worth it.
You can also look at the circuit board inside of the JBL earbuds or case once you have it open. You will not be able to do any work on the circuit board and they are not easy to replace.
What you can do, however, is visually inspect the circuit board for any damage, such as burnt circuitry or broken connections. Since the circuitry is so small, you may find using a magnifying glass is to your benefit.
After you have the earbuds or case open and make any changes, put them back together very carefully. There are many moving parts to these items but if they are not carefully closed, you may end up pinching a wire or causing further damage.
I would not recommend that you open the earbuds or case unless you are replacing the charging port or batteries. Even then, you need to make sure that a warranty is not in place before doing any work.
If they are not covered under warranty and you need to fix them on your own, here are some ways to do it.
Generic Solutions To Try To Fix JBL Live Earbuds Not Turning On
There may be many different reasons why JBL earbuds are experiencing problems. If yours aren’t turning on, however, consider the following five issues that may be the problem.
1. Dead Battery
Believe it or not, one of the most common reasons why you are experiencing problems with your JBL earbuds is that they are no longer charged. Although the battery may last for an extended amount of time under normal use, that time will eventually expire.
The fix for this particular issue is relatively straightforward. Put them on the charger and allow them to charge for at least an hour.
It’s also noteworthy that running the battery completely dead is not a bad idea every once in a while. It may actually have the benefit of resetting the battery time limit and allowing them to last longer before they die.
2. Firmware
If there is firmware or software associated with your JBL earbuds, you may need to update it from time to time. If you have software on your computer or mobile device that operates the earbuds, it will typically alert you to this need.
You can always check the JBL website to see if there is a firmware update. If one is available, you can download it and install it via a wired or wireless connection.
3. Connectivity
One of the benefits of JBL earbuds is the fact that they connect without wires. Although there are some wired sets, they tend to have their own issues and connectivity isn’t one of them.
If you are using a wireless pair of JBL earbuds, you need to make sure they are paired properly. They may actually be turning on in the background but you aren’t hearing any noise coming out of them because there is no signal getting to them.
Try performing a hard reset of the JBL earbuds and then reconnecting to the Bluetooth device. That should be enough to get them working again.
4. Charging Cable/Port
If there is a problem with the charging cable or the port on the charging device, then you will not be able to charge the JBL earbuds. Essentially, the battery will eventually wear down and they will no longer turn on.
The easiest way to fix this problem is to try a different cable. You can also check the port on the JBL earbud or the charging case and see if there is any damage or debris. Sometimes, just blowing into the port or using a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip will go a long way to fixing the problem.
5. Physical Damage
It is not unusual to damage JBL earbuds. They are durable, but if they are dropped multiple times or if they are dropped in the wrong way, you could put a quick end to their usefulness.
If the earbuds stop turning on after they have been dropped or otherwise abused, then that is the likely culprit. You can also visually inspect the earbuds for any signs of damage that may be the problem.
These are only a few of the many different reasons why JBL earbuds will not turn on. It may also be an issue with rebooting, liquid damage, a protective mode, or overheating. This list of five options, however, is a good place to start.
Additional JBL Live Troubleshooting Tips
Now that we’ve covered some of the common problems associated with JBL earbuds not turning on, it’s time to talk about solutions. These solutions will fix 99% of all problems with the earbuds and get them working again.
1. Connect a Charger
This may sound simplistic, but sometimes you just need to connect your JBL earbuds to a charger and allow them to charge. If you continually operate them beyond the ability to hold a charge for the they will stop turning on and no longer operate.
Since most JBL earbuds come with a case that is used for charging, you will not be able to use the earbuds during that time. If you absolutely must have your buds, you may want to try investing in a set of wired earbuds that can be used without any electricity.
2. Resetting the Earbuds
There are many different ways to reset JBL earbuds and it really depends upon the model you are using. For the most part, however, you can attempt a quick reset by holding down the power button until it turns off.
You can then restart the earbuds, holding down the power button once again and continuing to hold it until it is reset.
There are likely other methods that are used for the specific earbud you are operating. The best thing you can do is to look at the owner’s manual that came with your earbuds or search online for the documentation associated with the model.
3. Charge Port Cleaning
Unless the charger is constantly sitting on your desk and never exposed to any type of dust or dirt, it is likely that the charging port will need to be cleaned on occasion. That port can keep your JBL earbuds from charging, and you will never be able to turn them on.
The first thing to try if you have a charge port that is obstructed is to blow into the charge port at a close distance. Be careful to close your eyes, as you may dislodge a piece of dirt or something else that could get in your eyes.
If you have been using the charging feature for a long time, you may also need to clean it with some rubbing alcohol. Put a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and gently rub the inside of the charging port.
After you clean the port with rubbing alcohol, give it a few minutes for the residual alcohol to evaporate. You should also carefully inspect the charging port to make sure nothing was left behind.
