YouTube Not Working On Smart TV

Smart TVs have made it possible to access just about any platform imaginable that was previously only accessible through your smartphone, computer, or tablet. With YouTube available by the click of a smart tv remote, what do you do when the app stops working?

If YouTube is not working on your Smart TV, turn your TV off and back on, reset your network, be sure your TV and other smart devices are connected to the same network, verify that your smart TV supports YouTube, and sign out and back into the app, among a few other solutions.

YouTube started out as a humble platform that allowed users to reach audiences all over the world without having to reach them in real time. Through its evolution, this platform has become one of the top websites for user interaction, with more than 1 billion hours of use per day. Smart TV owners are able to access this website even more conveniently through their TVs, but when the app suddenly stops working, what can be done to get things up and running once again?

Smart TV YouTube Not Working

If YouTube won’t open on your smart TV, there could be several reasons why. Some common causes include outdated software, connectivity issues, or compatibility problems. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Update your software: Make sure that your smart TV and YouTube app are both up to date. Outdated software can cause compatibility issues.
  2. Check your network connection: Ensure that your smart TV is connected to the internet and that your network connection is stable. If your connection is weak or unstable, try resetting your router or contacting your internet service provider.
  3. Clear the app cache: Clear the cache and data of the YouTube app on your smart TV. This can be done through the TV’s settings menu.
  4. Restart your devices: Try restarting your smart TV and any other devices connected to your network.

How To Reset YouTube On My TV

To reset the YouTube app on your TV, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the settings menu on your TV.
  2. Navigate to the “Apps” or “Applications” section.
  3. Find and select the YouTube app.
  4. Select “Clear data” or “Clear cache” and confirm your selection.
  5. Restart the TV and open the YouTube app again.

If the issue persists, try updating the software on your TV or contacting the manufacturer’s customer support team for further assistance. By following these steps, you can reset the YouTube app on your TV and potentially resolve any issues you may be experiencing.

Smart TV YouTube Won’t Download/Update

In order to access YouTube on your smart TV, you must be able to download the app initially, then once it has been downloaded, be able to update the app as needed over time. Both of these actions are dependent on a strong network connection as well as the availability of updates within the app if you are in fact, looking to update YouTube. If you have a smart TV and YouTube won’t download or update, take a look below to find out what may be the cause.

If YouTube won’t download or update on your Smart TV, it could be that your network needs to be reset. To do this, unplug your modem or router directly from the power source and allow it to sit unplugged for 60 seconds. After this, plug the device back in and allow it to reboot.

Once you have given the modem or router enough time to reboot, you can then try to download YouTube once again. If you are not experiencing problems with downloading YouTube, but cannot get the app to update on your Smart TV, it could be that an update is not available. To check if an update is available, hover over the YouTube app from your applications and check to see if the option for an update appears, and if it does not, the app is already updated.

YouTube Not Casting/Stream To Smart TV

Another great feature of smart TVs is their ability to cast content from other smart devices. Whether you are using a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer, if you have the YouTube app on that device, many smart TVs offer the option of casting the content straight from one device to your TV. This option makes it easy for those who don’t want to use the app on their TV, but when casting or streaming isn’t working, what can you do to get this feature going again?

If YouTube is not casting or streaming to your smart TV, be sure that you have both the device you are trying to stream from and your TV connected to the same network. For both devices, you will need to navigate to settings and WiFi to see what network you are connected to.

Once you have confirmed that both devices are connected to the same internet, be sure that you are following the proper steps to cast and stream. You will open the YouTube app on your device and select the video you want to watch, while also ensuring that your Smart TV is on. Once you have the video you want to watch ready, select the ‘Cast’ icon on your device and then click on the TV you want to cast to while you wait for the connection to complete.

Smart TV YouTube Not Showing Up/Available/Found

If you have a smart TV, you may think that no matter what, you will have unlimited access to any application out there. Although this is true for newer smart TVs, some older smart TVs do not have the same capabilities as others, making your app availability a bit more limited. If you have a smart TV and are trying to download YouTube but the app is not showing up, is not available, or cannot be found, read below to find out why you aren’t seeing this app on your device.

If YouTube is not showing up, is not available, or cannot be found on your smart TV, it is very likely that your TV does not support the app. Older smart TVs do not have the capabilities to support the app, which means that the app, when searched for, can’t be found or is not available.

To see if you have a smart TV that does not support YouTube, you first need to figure out the brand of TV you own. Once you are able to verify the brand, find the model number on your TV and search to see if your model supports the app. For some brands, models that were made before 2016 or 2017 do not support the app, but the year is specific to each brand and model number, which is why finding this information is so imperative.

Smart TV YouTube No Sound/Audio

You may have a smart TV that is able to support YouTube, which makes using the app much more accessible when you are already at your TV. When using YouTube, you obviously want to be able to see the content within it, but along with this, you want to be able to hear the sound that comes with the content as well. If you have a smart TV and are using YouTube but there is no sound or audio coming from the video, read below to see what you can do fix the issue.

If YouTube has no sound or audio on your Smart TV, be sure to check that you don’t have the TV accidentally muted. If you are casting from a smart device, check the video you are playing and verify that you don’t have the video muted from within the app as well.

If you know that neither the TV nor the actual video has not been muted, it could be helpful to clear the cache of the YouTube app within your smart TV. The steps to this process will differ depending on the type of TV you own, but once you have the cache cleared within the app, exit out of the app, turn your TV off, turn it back on, then check to see if the sound on YouTube has been restored.

Smart TV YouTube Black/Blank Screen/No Picture

No matter what type of TV you own, if you have a device that is able to support YouTube, you should be able to open the app and almost immediately see the content within it. It may take the app a few moments to load before you are taken to the home screen of the app, but once loading has completed, you should be able to see available content, not a black screen. If you open YouTube on your smart TV and there is a black or blank screen, take a look below.

If YouTube on your Smart TV is showing a black or blank screen with no picture, it may be helpful to sign out of the app and then sign back in. Simply log out of YouTube then select the app once again, input your username and password, then see if you are still met with a black screen.

Once you have logged back into YouTube, you should be able to see content from within the app, but if you are still seeing a screen with no picture, try deleting the app and reinstalling it. This process is also going to vary depending on the type of Smart TV that you own, but it will typically entail going to the app, selecting or highlighting it, then scrolling down an option menu where you can then delete the app. You can then go back into apps and reinstall YouTube.

Smart TV YouTube Login/Sign In Problems

If you are using YouTube on a smart TV, you are not required to sign in to access content within this platform. However, if you are using YouTube TV or are trying to access your individual account with YouTube, you will have to put in your username and password in order to access that specific content. If you have a smart TV and are having problems logging in or signing in to your YouTube account, read below to see what you can do to gain access.

If you are having problems logging in or signing in to YouTube from your smart TV, you want to first confirm that you are using the correct login information for this particular platform. Try logging into YouTube from another device to see if the same login information grants you access.

If the information is not correct and you are not able to use that login information to get into YouTube from your smart TV, consider changing the password to your account. To do this, go to your Google account and find the ‘Security’ menu where you can change the password. If a wrong password is your issue, this change will allow you access to YouTube from your smart TV once the change has completed and the new password has been entered.

Smart TV YouTube Not Full Screen

Confused Woman while watching TV

Beyond having quick access to YouTube when you are already sitting in front of your smart TV, many smart TV owners like being able to use the app within their TV because they are able to see the same content available to them on their phones, computers, and tablets, but through a screen that is much larger. This gives users a better viewing experience, but if you are not able to get YouTube to get into a full screen mode, this advantage is nullified.

If YouTube is not full screen on your smart TV, take your remote, and at the bottom of the video player from within YouTube, tap the full-screen mode icon. Once this has been clicked, the video should immediately expand and you should then be able to watch content on a full screen.

If you are casting or streaming YouTube from another smart device, from within the YouTube app, click at the bottom of the video and just the same, tap on the full-screen icon that you see. This will cause the video to expand on your device, which will then be mirrored directly on the screen of your smart TV.
